Animal adjustments

A lot of people have asked how the animals are doing. Well, Niko is adapting to the new arrival like most siblings would—with begrudging acceptance. She mopes around the house quite a bit and really acts up when Tine takes the leash on our walks. We think she senses that Tine can't punish her while the baby is in her arms. This is actually pretty smart in my opinion. Not good, but smart. As soon as I get close, however, she completely falls into line ("Uh oh, Dad's home."). She's also started jumping up on the bed when Tine's out of the room (something she's never done before) . We think Niko has recently promoted herself to the role of alpha female for the house. Congratulations Niko. Nice work! Hunter, on the other hand, has gone from a skittish, independent cat to a needy, loving one as soon as we got back from the hospital. He's become a lap sitting feline almost overnight. Both animals have been great with McCarthy. They are very curious about him and look cautiously in his direction when he cries. In fact, Niko has even come to find us when Little Mac cries. She's lookin' out for him already.
