How to do the "Magic penny cell phone trick"
Here's how to do one of my favorite magic tricks for kids.
What you'll need:
2 pennies, two cell phones (one of them should be a flip phone)
Instructions:
1) While they aren't looking (and before you even mention doing a magic trick) plant a penny inside a cell phone (a flip phone is best) and leave it somewhere in the room.
2) Call the kids over to see a magic trick.
3) Show them the penny in your hand.
4) Close your fists and touch your hands together.
5) Here comes the distraction. Have them squeeze the hand NOT containing the penny really hard (you really don't need a reason, after all, they're not even 5 yet).
6) While they are distracted by squeezing your fist, slip the penny out of your other hand (I usually tuck it behind my knee).
7) Take the fist that just ditched the penny and hold it up in the air. Pick up a phone with your other hand. Tell them that you are going to slam the penny into the phone so hard that it will go into the phone. Slam you hand into the phone. Show them the phone and your empty hand. This alone will impress them.
8) Now for the grand finale... Call the number of the phone containing the penny and have the kids answer the magic penny phone. Get ready for the screams (and I do mean screams) of "How'd you do that? and "Do that again, Do that again!"

What would Gob, of Arrested Development, have to say about this? Calling your illusions "magic" and "tricks?" AND giving away your secrets!
I'm gonna try it :) Thanks Ed.

Yep, giving away all my secrets. I essentially only have one trick, but use different props. Just plant the "magic" whatever where you want it to end up, distract them, hide the real thing somewhere, and whammo, kabloozki, kadabra, you've got a magic trick. It's good times.
