Hoopfest 2008

This past weekend was Hoopfest, the largest 3 on 3 basketball tournament in the world. They close down most of downtown and set up about a thousand backboards. The youngest kids I saw were about 6 or 7. My friend Sean's son was in the 2nd grade division. He had some pretty sweet drives, but their team lost in the end. The numbers behind the event are pretty staggering. It's pretty amazing how the event has grown.

6,400 total teams
25,000+ competitors
200,000 fans in town for the event
$30 million weekend revenue for Spokane

It was close to 100 degrees for the event. The asphalt was a smokin.' I spent Saturday downtown for the event and got just plain exhausted. Mac is a big hoops fan as well as it turns out (Honestly, I haven't pushed him at all). He's a big time dunker. He's big on shooting hoops, reading, baths, apple sauce, and remote control ceiling fans.

"(Honestly, I haven't pushed him at all)"...come on now. How many Gonzaga games has Mac watched on TV? I'm sure he asked for the hoop and backboard, too...

If it's any consolation Dillon already has his Little Tikes hoops set and he can't even crawl yet...he's a big hoops fan too!
